Why Martial Arts?
Looking to get fit? Looking for a new hobby? Well, have you considered taking up a martial art? If you have started looking I am sure that you will have noticed lots of variants of martial arts, from the well known like Karate, to the more obscure such as Bokator. All martial arts have the merits, and will most certainly improve your fitness, but Jiu Jitsu can offer a bit more than just improved fitness.
All Martial Arts will give you discipline, focus, increased concentration, more self-confidence, respect, improved stamina, plus many other life skills. These benefits can be applied to all areas of your life, and not just in the dojo, but read on to find out why we think Jiu Jitsu can offer you more.
Why Jiu Jitsu?
If you have done any reading around about Jiu Jitsu, you will realise that there are variants of this ancient martial art. Traditional Jiu-Jitsu (sometimes known are Japanese Jiu Jitsu) as opposed to BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) is a very well rounded martial art where you will not only improve your physical fitness, but will also learn a lot more, there is a strong focus on self-defence in Jiu Jitsu, so you will learn not only how to punch and kick, but also what to do if you’re on the receiving end of a punch or kick.
Jiu Jitsu roughly translates as the gentle technique, as it is not about attacking, but more about using an attackers power and strength against them to disarm them and prevent them further attacking you. These techniques have very real world applications, where as with some martial arts you learn very little defence, and mainly how to attack.
Here are IJJO we are independent of any large federations, meaning we are not tied up with bureaucracy and politics. This allows us to focus on teaching and technique, giving us a great syllabus that will get you learning Jiu Jitsu quickly and to a very high standard.
At IJJO we also like to put the techniques into real world ‘situations’, so that you understand why you’re doing what you’re doing? This is achieved by combining techniques so that you can see the end result, and introducing multiple person attacks very early in our syllabus.
So if you’re thinking of taking up a martial art, or you’re looking for something for your son or daughter, we hope you will consider Jiu Jitsu, and if you are considering Jiu Jitsu, we hope you will consider IJJO, and come and visit us at Rushcroft Jiu Jitsu Club in Shaw, Oldham.
